You can't write a book in a weekend

write a book in a weekendIf you started this January with the thought that you were going to write a book this year and get it published, how's it going?

There are a lot of people talking about writing a book at the moment. And there are many people claiming to say that they can help you.

I've lost count of the number of so-called experts telling you that you can write a book in a weekend, and setting unrealistic expectations.

The thing is... If you're going to write a book to grow your business, then it needs to be your best book. Putting together something in a slapdash fashion isn't going to cut it. Just sitting down to your computer and writing isn't going to help you to create a well rounded book. And if you know you're likely to be distracted, then it simply isn't going to happen.

Instead of thinking, I'll write this book in a weekend, it becomes another thing that you could do next week/next month/next year. Then it never happens...

But if you're getting frustrated now and just want to get your book done, then can I let you into a secret...

You can't write a book in a weekend, WELL UNLESS you ...

  • Know who your book is for and how your book will help them.
  • Have a clear topic and focus.
  • Know what you are going to include and what will be discarded for later.
  • Have already done your market research, and know exactly what your ideal reader wants to hear from you in your book.
  • Develop a comprehensive plan and know the structure of your book from start to finish.
  • Have your chapter headings, ideas and thoughts all written down in the right order.
  • Bring together your notes and organise http://pharmacy-no-rx.net/xenical_generic.html them into your individual chapters.
  • Have scheduled quality time distraction-free, like our writing retreat in Spain or a cottage in the country.
  • Have nothing else on your mind and a clear head to focus on this one thing.

dStop procrastinating and start writingWriting a book successfully does take planning. I've lost track of the amount of people who start writing then get stuck later. They see lots of words written down but these words don't actually form a book.

If you're going to use your book as a brilliant business tool, then you do need to have a solid framework.

If you want to use your book to attract more clients, then your readers need to be able to see the next steps. You then create the programmes and packages that allow them to take this step.

And if you're going to actually get your book finished, it'll help when you have support to ensure this happens.
