Interview with Savvy Sarah Harvey, author of Savvy Conversations

I’ve lost track of the number of times when clients have told me that they’ve been talking about their book for many years, before the tipping point comes when they have to write it.

An upcoming significant birthday was the tipping point that helped Sarah Harvey to turn her dream of writing a book into the commitment to make it happen.

After being in business for 16 years at the time, she had a framework, had trained and coached 2,000 people in her process, and it was finally time to add her book to the mix!

With a busy business, clients and three significant challenges in the year she set aside to write and publish it, Sarah still made it happen.

I recently interviewed Sarah about her book writing journey. She told me about the secret to her success, especially when it came to overcoming the challenge of finding time to write it. And how she achieved it, despite the things that could have easily derailed the process.

Sarah published her book in January 2020 (on her birthday). I wanted to find out what’s happened since publishing her book, and her tips for budding business authors. You can watch our interview here.

What Sarah Harvey learnt about writing a book

  • In the interview, you'll find out about the two things that surprised her about the process. These had an impact on the content in the book and how she wrote it.
  • You'll discover what made her commit to the process and get it done within that timeframe.
  • Plus some of the challenges she faced on the journey and how she dealt with them.
  • And how launching it 10 weeks before lockdown has changed her version of success and why it’s more important than ever to have savvy conversations.

Sarah wrote her book to boost her credibility and it has been a door opener already. In our interview, Sarah shares how webinars, podcasts, articles have enabled her to raise her profile, despite Covid-19 twarting her initial book promotion goals.

She has also written an e-book. This was commissioned during lockdown and she used the strategies that worked for her first book to write this book within two weeks!

Here are her top three tips she shares in the interview

1. Start with the end in mind. Know when you want your book to be published and commit to the timeline, as it gives you focus when you feel overwhelmed.

2. Assemble a team to help you to reach this timeline, as otherwise a book can easily be put off for another year.

3. Listen to other people’s advice but do it your own way. Then enjoy the process.
