Too many ideas and not sure what to write about?
Six simple words. That’s all it took.
For Jenny to finally realise something that people had been telling her for months.
The lack of progress, going round in circles and lots of confusion were due to one thing.
“I am writing the wrong book!”
After attending the last writing retreat that we ran in Spain in 2019, Jenny made a good start. But COVID-19 put paid to any significant progress and she lost focus. On top of that, the uncertainty of the situation meant that her creativity was stunted.
Then watching a webinar I was running, she had this heart wrenching realisation.
You see Jenny is like many business owners. She has a huge wealth of knowledge that she could share. Lots of things that she could say. So it can be hard to nail down a topic and perfect idea.
Not sure what to write about?
I’m often asked whether you need to have total clarity on what you’re writing before you start a programme with me, and my answer is no.
Of course, if you’re going to commit to writing your book for the next six months, it helps if you have half an idea and a business already, but it doesn’t matter if you don’t yet know exactly what’s going in it.
Because that’s what we cover in the first few weeks. Before you start writing it.
After Jenny experienced this pivotal moment, her ideas started to flow again. Jenny is working with me personally right now as she wants to get her book completed quickly, although we are following the exact same process that I cover in the Smart Author System.
We are utilising the ‘Build the plane as you fly it’ self-funding method, which means that she is running a programme for clients alongside writing it.
This makes it easier to write, as she is delivering the content that is going in her book.
Interviewing the people who did her programme last time is providing juicy stories and case studies to add.
Plus, all the content she has already created is going in book two!
If you’d like to be like Jenny and get support with your book, then here’s how we can work together.
1. Book a Make It Happen day
Make It Happen days are designed to kick start your motivation. Whether you’re getting started, or doing your planning, writing or editing, you’ll join a small group of authors via Zoom for the day, and get advice, support and the chance to pick my brain to make your book happen. Dates and details can be found at www.librotas.com/make-it-happen.
2. Join the Smart Author System
The Smart Author System online training programme is where you can learn everything you need to write your book that enables you to self-validate and self-fund it as you write it. You can join the Self-study option or the Community version. The latter includes a Make It Happen day, Facebook community, expert interviews and additional support. Details can be found at www.librotas.com/smartauthor.
