Are you ready to write a book?

One thing that I’m asked a lot is this: How do I know if I’m ready to write a book?

But like a lot of things in life, when will you ever be ready?

It’s like getting married, having a family or making a big investment, the time may never seem right. But if you never do it, how would you feel?

However, if writing a book is on your agenda, there are certainly things that you need to have in place from day one.

All to often I speak to people who have written a book, but find that it doesn’t sell. They’ve made some of the mistakes that I help my clients to avoid. These are things like not having a community of people who want your book and not aligning your book to your business.

There are 5 fundamental building blocks that you need to have in place before you start and if you miss any of these things, then you’ll struggle to use your book as a business building tool.

Let me touch on one of these here: You need to be clear on your message and where you are an expert.

If you’ve been reading my blogs for a while, you’ll know that I bang on about this a lot! But that’s because it is incredibly important.

When someone reads your book, you will take them on a journey. Whether your book is a memoir, a self-help book or one that showcases your knowledge, it’s essential that your message is clear. If you’re always jumping around from subject to subject or from idea to idea, then your reader will be quickly confused and never finish reading your book, let alone come to you for support and advice.

Of course, that’s not the only thing that you have to do, but it’s the first one that I’ll share with my clients. When you know what things you need in place and what mistakes to avoid, then it will make it easier to write your book and get published.
