The 8 rules of writing
Whenever I have a session with my Smart Author – Fast Track groups, I always start by asking them to each share their successes since the last call.
I ask questions like…
- What has gone well?
- What is working?
- What successes have you had?
Because even if you’ve had the worst week in the world, there will be things – however big or small – that have gone well for you.
And what I love about working with my groups is that when they discover what other people have achieved, then their personal list starts to get longer.
As human beings, we are generally conditioned to be self-critical, and it’s easy to focus on the annoyances and hinderances rather than the successes.
So today, I’d like to remind you to keep a record of what you have achieved, what you have done and suggest you keep it updated to help stay focused.
As I often remind my clients – especially if they are having a bad day – every word you write today is a word more than you had yesterday.
The 8 rules of writing
I’d like to leave you some words of wisdom on the 8 rules of writing from author, Ajay Ohri.
- Write 50 words. That’s a paragraph.
- Write 400 words. That’s a page.
- Write 300 pages. That’s a manuscript.
- Write every day. That’s a habit.
- Edit and rewrite.
- Spread your writing for people to comment.
- Don’t worry about rejection or publication.
- When not writing, read.
