Author Spotlight interview with Sarah Chapman

Many people feel that you have to say something new when you write a book. I don’t agree with this. Because we all have a different approach, unique stories and the ability to engage our audience in different ways. BUT you do need to find a hook that wows your audience.

When Sarah Chapman signed up for the Smart Author System last year, this was the first thing she did. And she has recently got a publishing deal for her first book based on her work as a funeral celebrant, helping those who have faced the loss of a loved one.

My colleague, Sheryl Andrews, recently interviewed Sarah to find out about her new book and what she learnt on her journey. You can watch it here or click to listen to the audio.

Here are some of the biggest insights.

When you start to write a book, begin with creating a plan. When you explore your ideas first, you’ll uncover how many books you are writing and you’ll know which piece of information goes in which book. As Sarah says in the interview, don’t be afraid to change the direction you are going in.

If you want a publishing deal, Sarah and I both advise you to consult the Artists’ and Writers’ Yearbook as you will be able to find out what publishers are in your genre and how to approach them. Having a polished synopsis is essential when you get to this stage, which I cover in week four of the Smart Author System.

Your book will give you more confidence in what you do, even before your book is published. Sarah is already approaching people as an author, people are interested in what she has to say and it’s opening doors for her already.
