7 ways writing a book can save you time

write a book time

If I had a pound for every time someone said to me “I want to write a book, but I don’t have time to do it”, then I’d be a very rich woman!

Don’t get me wrong, writing a book is a big thing to do. And sometimes it does feel hard to carve out enough time to do it justice.

I also know that the time you do put aside for writing can easily be filled up with other things that seem important. And slowly but surely your book drops to the bottom of your priorities or you find yourself procrastinating.

In last week’s blog I gave you some time saving tips that will help whilst writing your book, so how would it be if I gave you 7 reasons why writing a book CAN save you time? Read on to find out why writing a book is the best thing you can do with your time right now!

1. Clients will be attracted to you rather than you continually seeking new ones

A book gives you the best in ‘pull marketing’ (rather than push marketing), because when you have a book (as long as it’s the right book and you market it well), you’ll reach more people with it. Therefore, you’ll have a bigger group of people who like what you have to say, may well be interested in working with you, and will approach you to do so.

2. Other people will get what you do, generating referrals and recommendations

Too many people wait for clarity and confidence to arrive to get their book written, when in fact the book writing process will support you to gain clarity of what you want to say and why. When you get what you do, it’s easier to express this via networking and your website. Thus, you’re more likely to get the right referrals and recommendations, which will then lead to new clients who love what you have to say.

3. You’ll find it easier to create consistent income streams

If you’ve planned your book well, you’ll probably have the next steps for your readers after they’ve read your book – like a product, programme or workshop. This is one of the things that I work on with some of my clients. When everything is aligned, this product is easier and less time consuming to create (as you’ll probably build on the content in your book), and you’re more likely to have a consistent message that brings in a consistent income.

4. You’ll know what to say no to and what to say yes to

This is crucial when it comes to time, as you may well be offered opportunities that aren’t right for you, but you struggle to say no. When you’ve mastered everything else in this list, it’ll mean that you start to focus on the things you enjoy, that you are aligned to, and reject the things that don’t serve you or your business.

5. You’ll attract more of the right opportunities

Knowing what to say yes to is one thing, but when you know what you want and are clear about your message, you’ll automatically attract more of the right opportunities for your business. When you have the added credibility of your book, you’re more likely to get high quality speaking engagements, guest blogging opportunities, podcast interviews, and all of this automatically extends your reach.

6. You can serve people who can’t afford you

If you’re constantly on the phone to prospective clients who can’t afford you, then a book (and a programme) will give them another way to get access to your expertise, without taking up your valuable time. You’ll no longer feel like you need to save the world because your book will support those that are not able or ready to invest in your services.

7. You’ll become more confident

When you’ve been through your message, wisdom and story a hundred times to write and edit your book(!), then you’ll be more confident in what you do. You’ll hold yourself differently, you’ll project yourself with more authority, and value yourself more. This in itself will attract the right clients to you more easily. You’ll reach those who resonate with your message. You’ll be confident to charge what you’re worth, thus potentially allowing you to work more intensively with less clients and saving you time in doing so.
