When’s the best time to get a book mentor?

When’s the best time to get a book mentor?

  1. Is it when your business coach tells you to do it?!
  2. Is it when you’ve started but are feeling stuck or overwhelmed?
  3. Or is it when you’re in the concept or idea stage?

I generally work with clients in stage 3 (or 1!) but sometimes people don’t find me until later (because, let's face it, not everyone looks for a book coach or a book mentor when they make the decision to write a book).

Paul Harper was a '2' in Summer 2021 because of '1'! He had 60k words on paper after starting to write his book in the first lockdown.

But by his own admission, it was rubbish. Not the content - because Paul has decades of experience - but the words themselves were not in a readable order. And the more he tried to edit it, the more cumbersome it became. So it sat in a drawer for a year before he sought my help.

Paul recently shared his author’s journey in an interview with Sheryl Andrews. Because his book, Reinventing the Financial Profession, was published and launched last month (becoming an Amazon bestseller in the process).

In the interview with Sheryl, he gives a lovely example of how we worked in partnership. We worked collaboratively, so I got to understand his industry, and they discussed my superpower of holding a structure of a book in my head, which enabled us to pull the narrative and story together into a brilliantly readable book!

He also explores how our collaboration gave him the confidence that the book was going to get finished.

Paul's success to date...

Paul's book is already positioning him as an expert in a specialist market. He is already exploring potential opportunities to reach a wider audience and speak on his topic. On the day of his interview, he'd just done a podcast.

The process of writing the book helped Paul to narrate and tell his story better, so that he can confidently distil the essence of his knowledge and expertise.

It became an Amazon bestseller upon launch, achieved a huge reach, and helped him to fulfil a lifelong dream of becoming a published author!
