How do I get my book published?

How do I get my book published is a question that I get asked about a lot.

Do you go down the traditional publishing route, do you get your book self-published or perhaps partnership publishing is a good middle ground?

The general consensus is that it’s a minefield and I do totally agree!

But it’s not just about getting your book published, it’s all the stuff before then – getting your book edited, making sure it is print-ready, and getting your cover nailed too, and I’ll talk about these another day.

When it comes to the publishing piece, in my new book, Your Book is the Hook, I dedicate a whole session to this, laying out the pros and the cons of each different method. This then enables you to make an informed decision about which route to take.

Whilst many people would love to go down the traditional route, there are certainly many advantages to doing it yourself.

For example, you retain the copyright to your work so that you can reproduce this in other formats in the future.

You can control how you use the book as a marketing tool.

You can get your book written and published reasonably quickly as you’re not relying on a publisher to do stuff for you.

As it is, you’ll be doing most of the marketing anyway, even if you get a brilliant publishing deal.  And if you want to use your book to get you leads, then doing it yourself keeps you in control.

If you’re in the place where you’re thinking about how to get your book published, there are three things that you need to think about first which I outline in this very short video.

Get more support to publish your book

One of the things that I do to help my clients is the whole process that takes them from their initial idea to getting their book published. As I’ve done this myself many times now, I’m in the perfect position to help. I know the right people to get their book out there and the marketing strategies that work for business books.
