Author Spotlight interview with Kevin Brent

Kevin Brent was compelled to write his book for two reasons:

  • For the last 10 years, he has worked with owner-managers and wanted a book to support his business, that could be used as a reference guide and a workbook, and support new franchisees.
  • 0.7% of businesses scale to more than 50 employees and 4% scale beyond 10 employees in the UK, and he wanted to give their owners the resources to grow to seven figures and beyond.

Kevin joined me for the first Smart Author - Fast Track programme in 2021 and recently published his first book, The Entrepreneurial Scaleup System

Sheryl Andrews recently sat down with Kevin to find out the highs and lows of his book writing journey. He said:

It's one thing writing your book down onto paper, it's another thing when you get the first copy through the post, and can look at it and say 'That's what I wrote...'

I’d like to celebrate this success today. As there’s something special that happens when you take your words out of your head and it actually becomes a book!

Here are some of the highlights from Kevin Brent’s interview

When Kevin joined me for the Smart Author - Fast Track programme, he already had a structure that was used to create the content for the book. In the interview he said, “without this I can’t imagine how it would have all started – it would have probably been a ramble!”

Like many authors I support, who have a structure when they come to me, writing the book helped solidify his message and tweak his process.

Plus when it came to peer review, he was blown away by the comments and how it developed as a result.

He also advises you to read your book aloud and allow the time your book needs for the editing process.

Kevin’s book was published in April 2022, and has been endorsed by Mark Wright, winner of The Apprentice (UK) in 2010.
