Marketing your book – what should you do and when?

Last Friday evening, I was delighted to attend the book launch party for Helen and Anne’s book, The Discovery Prism. During the evening, Helen was telling me the difference that their book is already making to their business. And there was one simple thing they did during the evening that will help get their book in front of more decision makers.

I recently caught up with Kate to find out how she’s getting on with her book. She was telling me what she’s done to sell almost 1000 books to date, and she only launched her book, E-telligence, a couple of months ago. There’s one strategy that she put into place early during the writing stage that has led to this extraordinary result.

And last month, I had a call with another client, Teresa. She was so excited that three people had signed up for one of her courses. Although not unusual for one of our published authors, this lady has only just got started. There’s one thing that she’s doing right now that’s raising her profile, even though she hasn’t finished writing it yet.

What makes all of these clients successful is that they have plan to market their book, and they’re putting into place important yet simple actions to maximise their success.

So, when should you start marketing your book?

Now I’m often asked when you should you focus on marketing. And in my opinion, it’s never too early to market your book.

There are lots of things you can do when you start, like talking about your book, blogging, building your mailing list and growing your community – both on and offline. You might consider crowdfunding or even getting sponsorship to get your project going.

Then when it comes to your launch, the emphasis is on wider promotion, such as an Amazon bestseller launch, book launch party, getting PR for your book and specific promotions for sales.

After your launch, your book mustn’t be forgotten. There’s much more you’ll do now, like creating a programme from your book, speaking, exhibitions, webinars and events and so much more. And maybe writing the next one!

I can’t stress enough how important it is to focus on marketing, and it’s never too early to start thinking about it.

The 30 Day Book Marketing Challenge – starts Monday 1 April

If you’d like to know what to do and when – and you’d like me to share some of the strategies that our clients are putting into place – then please do join me for this year’s 30 Day Book Marketing Challenge

We start on Monday 1 April and I’ll be showing you exactly how to get you and your book noticed.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re in the early stages of your book or have already launched (or if you’re somewhere in between), as I’ll share dozens of strategies and real life examples that will help you. This is the third year I’ve run the challenge, and I can’t wait to do it again!

Don’t miss out as this is the only time I’m running this programme live this year. And lastly, 20% from each sale will go to charity, so let’s get you marketing and help the charity at the same time!
