Step up, stand still or stagnate?

If you’re not getting results in your business right now, what do you think is happening?

I want to be frank with you, it’s easy to put barriers in the way of your success.  It’s not rocket science to say that if you take the same old actions, you’ll get the same old results. And if what you’re doing isn’t working now, then you need to do something different.

I think it’s important to mention that I’m certainly not perfect and I’ve been guilty of this myself. I’ve made excuses to why I haven’t achieved something, and procrastinated when I should have be doing something much more productive instead. But I also know when to take stock and do something different.  I also know that I’m constantly stepping up and if I didn’t, I (and my business) would stagnate, and standing still just doesn’t work.

When I talk about stepping up it is about setting the next challenge, embracing new opportunities and doing something a little bit scary.  It’s about stretching and growing, and leaving behind the things that aren’t important anymore.

A recent personal example was when I was interviewed by the Daily Express last week for an article in their Women’s Section. Of course I feel vulnerable.  I’m sharing my story and committing to completing my third book, which relates to the story. But the story I share is more important to me than feeling a little nervous of what other people might think.

So if I suggested you step up in your business right now, what would you say?

“I’ll do it when, x, y and z has happened first”

“The summer’s coming, so let’s wait until September, when the kids go back to school, I’ve got everything in place (etc…) and then I’ll make a start”

“I need your help, when do we start?” 🙂

“I’m doing it anyway and it’s fantastic to see the results!”

My clients who get the best results are those who give it all it takes. And this doesn’t mean that they don’t face personal difficulties and distractions along the way. They’re the ones who are ready to follow their passion and just knowing why they are doing it in the first place will well and truly make it happen.

What do you need to commit to doing in your business to get better results?

Let me give you a few  examples.

When one of my clients started working with me in December, she had dreams of setting up a hypnotherapy networking group in her local area with  fellow hypnotherapist. When I spoke with her this morning, she was bouncing with excitement as they are very close to setting up a hypnotherapy training school on the South Coast!!

On my webinar on Friday, there was a great example of one of the ladies who is just about to do her first talk. But she took the time to learn from me, and is also joining Helen and myself on 11/12 July for the next Star Biz event to take her business to the next level.  And you can too, if you come and join us.

In September, I am running my first writing retreat in Spain. Those people who have booked to join me might not know how they are going to put their book together right now, but they’re ready to give it a go and know I can help them to make it happen. And the thought of 5 days in the sun totally clinches the deal!

The overriding thing for me is that when you make that initial decision to step up, big things will happen.  You’ll attract new opportunities and take massive action to get there.  It might feel scary at times, but the difference that makes the difference is about making the decision, going for it, even when you end up learning from the journey!

So are you stagnating or stepping up in your business?

Karen, you are such a shining light in this world! You inspire me everyday and make me take stock of myself. Through your example I know anything is possible for me if I just go for it. My own wisdom has taught me that I get there faster with some guidance from those who’ve gone before me, so sometimes I go for it on my own and sometimes I seek the guidance that uplevels me faster. (I like quick results!) You inspire me with your passion, courage and ability to overcome whatever inner demons/ stories/ limiting beliefs/ personal circumstances/ personal history/ shyness or anything else that might hold you back from reaching ever higher for yourself. Great article. Great reminder. Thank you!

Thank you Helen. One of my mentors once said to me that whenever I said I’d do something, she knew that I’d do it. Why wait around for something that might happen rather than actually make something happen?!

Stepping up , I’m certainly doing that daily at the moment , stepping up mixing it up , moving the goal posts, I’m constantly learning and it shows in my business growth in doubling my turnover from last year and my sponsoring side of the business is totally taken off, showing my down line the success that is possible has created a buzz of activity and I intend to keep that momentum going and growing , thanks for your help Karen x

Hi Karen, very lively and useful post, as ever, though I think you could expand the point about procrastination eg ‘I’ll do it when…’ and others. The number of times I’ve heard that but the people saying it clearly don’t realise how unhelpful it is to them. It’s a psychological defence, but they think they’re doing the right thing and may consider others who forge on as foolhardy.
