12 Reasons Why You Need To Write A Book

Have you ever thought that there is a book within you but you don’t know where to start?

You’d like to get your message out to more pharmacy people, but you’re not sure what people want to know?

Perhaps there is a bigger reason behind what you do, and you just have to share it.

You’d like to write a business book that can be used as a positioning tool, but you’re struggling to get started or finished?

There are many reasons why you need to write a book and here are 12 of them!

1. Someday may never happen

It’s very easy to say that you’ll write your book someday, yet you keep putting it off.  You know it will benefit your business, but something stops you. This reminds me of a quote by Brian Tracy where he talks about Someday Isle, and if you keep putting off the things that you’d really love to do, how would you feel if someday never comes?

2. What if someone else does it first?

You’ve got a brilliant idea for a book, and you know that no one does it exactly the same way as you do. But how would you feel if someone else had a similar thought and wrote the book you’d love to write? Even if you have a brilliant idea, unless you get on with it, it will always stay an idea. When you’re clear on your hook and the angle you want to approach with it, then your book will be unique.

3. Writing can be cathartic

One of the reasons that some of my clients write is because it’s cathartic.  It allows you to work through some of your own ‘stuff’ to get your message out and help others.

4.  To help others and make a difference

Moving on from the third point, it also allows you to help and support others through your stories, strategies and expertise.  It may give people a reference point, actions to take and ideas to consider.  It also gives people a chance to experience you before they invest in the next stage in working with you personally.

5. To establish your credibility as an expert and helps you to become more visible

One of the many reasons that entrepreneurs write a book is to establish credibility. It is a brilliant medium to stand out from everyone else in your industry and demonstrate your knowledge.  When you write a great book (and promote it well!), you will become more visible.  Also, once you’re known for this thing that you are sharing, you may consider creating a create a suite of products that builds further on your expertise and helps you to grow your business.

6. So that you get known for what you do

Building on the fifth point, it enables you to get known for what you do in a much bigger way than you can do on a one-to-one basis. Through writing a book you can easily reach all corners of the globe. You can also leverage your message through other communications such as blogging, social media and speaking that complements your writing and your message.

7. It facilitates marketing as clients are more likely to find you

When you write a book, more people will get to know you, and instead of seeking new clients, people will come to you instead.  Are people more likely to contact you if they’ve downloaded your free EBook or they have a copy of your physical masterpiece on their book shelf?

8. It can lead to other opportunities

Being perceived as an expert by writing a book can often lead to other opportunities. This may mean that you become a sought-after speaker or asked to do a keynote talk from someone who has read your book. Or you may get involved in telesummits, be invited to do radio, TV  or press interviews, or be approached for your opinion by other sources too.

9. It will help you to get your foot in the door

If you are looking to get in front of particular organisations or individuals, having a good book can help you to get your foot in the door – aka an expensive business card.  You can use your book to demonstrate your credibility by using it as a free gift or as a way to position yourself as the ‘go-to-person’ in your profession.

10. Being a best selling author adds to your kudos

Not everyone reaches the dizzy heights of being a best seller (although there is a strategy that works on Amazon), but if you do, it adds to your kudos and is something that you can promote to prospective clients.

11. It gives you the impetus to organise your material

One of the things that I have found most useful for my clients (and myself), is that writing a book gives you the focus and impetus to organise your material into a signature system or process that works.  What it also makes you do is carry out further research to fill the gaps in your knowledge, which is beneficial to you and your readers.

12. It will change your life

Once you’ve written and published a book, it will change your life. Even if you decide to self-publish, a well written book will do all of the above and if your book is picked up by a publishing house, who knows what’s next for you and your business?!

Even if you sell a few hundred or thousand copies, although it might not be a retirement fund, you are still going to make a big difference to many other people’s lives, and it will help you to build your business by being an expert author.
