Why doing everything by yourself won't work

Why doing everything by yourself won’t work

It can be a catch 22 situation when you start out in business. You don’t have any money to invest in your development but you aren’t making any money either.  But if you don’t know the short cuts and strategies that work, where will that leave you? Doing everything by yourself won’t work.

I know this because that was me when I started out in 2006. I was the person who was struggling to get results, and getting clients was particularly unpredictable. I didn’t have a structure to generate leads, get referrals or consistently attract clients. Coming from a corporate background, why should I know the strategies to create a successful business? Actually it took more than 3 years before I was able to leave my corporate job – 3 years later than I would have wished. If I knew then what I know now, it really would have been so much easier.

That’s why I’ve created The Business Wow Factor, the members-only club for coaches, consultants and therapists who are in the first couple of years of running a business. At this stage, knowing this stuff is fundamental to getting quicker results and creating a business that is sustainable.

Doing everything by yourself won’t work because:

1. You don’t know what you don’t know

If you’ve never run a business, how and why should you know what to do first?  You may well be a brilliant practitioner, but that’s not going to cut it when it comes to running a business – well not a successful one anyway.

If you don’t know what to do or how to get noticed, get some help. Get some support in the areas where you need them and allow yourself to be the expert in your field.

2. You will probably waste money on things you don’t need

It is easy to waste money on things you don’t need in the early days – that shiny website, advertising that doesn’t get you clients and new tools that are (of course) the next best thing!

Apparently it costs £250 to advertise on a well known online advertising website (the one with the big yellow book that you might use to prop open your door!) But is this the best use of your cash?  You can get better results by having a well targeted website, being clear on your ideal clients, and having a strategy to generate leads.

3. You won’t have seamless systems in place to get you results

If your marketing is hit and miss at the moment, you’ll probably be struggling. It’s easy to spread yourself too thinly and if you do get results, I’m sure you’re not measuring them.  Having seamless systems in place from day 1 works.  Otherwise you’ll always be reinventing the wheel, and be busy, but not necessarily http://healthsavy.com/product/nexium/ doing the things that will consistently grow your business.

4. You’ll have wasted money on your training

Training as a coach costs in the region of £3000 and is likely to be similar for other service based professions – and that’s without the other development that you might be tempted to do along the way. If you want to use these skills with clients, but don’t nail the business stuff, that training and money will be wasted. Your training is just the start of your journey and knowing how to market yourself, generate leads and create sales is the only way that you will make it.

5. It will take you longer to be successful

If you try and figure everything out by yourself, it will take you a long time, many mistakes and plenty of frustrations before you finally make it.  That time will cost you your sanity, your energy and your mindset.  How long before you give up? How much time will you give it until you decide that working for yourself is not for you?  Why not learn the shortcuts now?

You have got to make your training pay

You’ve got to put into place the shortcuts to discover how you can get more leads, attract more clients and make more money in your business.

You’ve got to learn what makes you different, how you can stand out and how you can get noticed.

You’ve got to find out how to turn prospects into clients, create more sales and find the people who are ready to work with you.
