Author Spotlight interview with Jim James
Every author goes on their unique journey writing a book. We love to find out what’s worked, what hasn’t and what could have worked better.
A few weeks ago, I shared some of the stories from authors who have recently been published. And my colleague, Sheryl Andrews, recently interviewed Jim James for the Author Spotlight in our Facebook group.
You can watch it below. Or click to listen via audio-only.
Here are some of my highlights from the interview.
One of my Smart Authors, I love how Jim used his podcast show as a way to (in his own words) curate the book, proving that you don’t need to write all the words yourself to create a really good book. Jim brought together the insights of 50 experts from all over the world and used these for the content that was shared within his own framework.
One of the things I talk about a lot is finding and getting to know your ideal reader and he shares how his sister was a key driving force for the book and this helped him to focus on the key questions that she wanted answered.
To bring the book together from the podcast shows, Jim used VA support and some nifty tech tools and he explains in the interview how he did this, which saved him huge amount of time in the process.
Marketing is a key thing to think about when writing a book, and the earlier the better in my view. Although Jim has already had some amazing successes, he explained in the interview how he wished he’d engaged in marketing earlier on in the process and what he learnt from this experience.
I am delighted to hear how his book has already given him a platform in the space of two weeks to get onto other people’s shows because he’s got a book. And why his new shelves are stimulating conversations that wouldn’t happen otherwise…!
