The new paradigm of collaboration

The new paradigm of collaboration

I believe there is a new paradigm of collaboration.  People aren’t keeping their best ‘stuff’ to themselves anymore and are willing to share their success strategies or failures with their competitors and clients.

Competition no longer matters.

It’s no longer about competition and keeping your best ideas to yourself; it is about helping and championing others so that everyone achieves the best result. You don’t have to put on a face when you go to a networking event, you can tell it as it is and get the support to turn things around.

Let me give you an example. At the event I ran last week (‘What to do when everyone else is selling the same as you’), there were a lot of business owners in the room; many of whom have similar businesses to each other.  I realised this shift in support when I saw the power of collaboration and connection, especially over afternoon tea, rather than people keeping their secrets secret and ideas to themselves.

Who do you know?

These days, to be successful in business it’s not about what you know, but who you know, and collaborating is one of the keys. At an event I attended this weekend, we were encouraged to look at the joint ventures that we could create in our businesses – which I love to do anyway – as we all deserve the opportunity to be successful and get the best results.

But not everyone gets it.

I was asked recently why I share so much valuable information to my ‘competitors’. Well I believe there are enough clients out there for all of us, and there will be certain people who resonate with me and some who will relate better to someone else.  And that’s OK! Plus I get to share my knowledge with you, which helps you to develop and grow your business.

Having been in business for 7 years now and having spent time with dozens of entrepreneurs on a personal level, I know what works – and I certainly know the stuff that doesn’t!

You’ve got to know what makes you stand out and it’s not always easy to recognise this by yourself and know what you can do differently to be successful. It can be a lonely business working for yourself, and collaboration is one of keys to this success.
