Business tip – Do the thing that works!

I was talking to my mentor recently about doing the thing that works rather than reinventing the wheel.

So often I see people who don’t get results immediately with something. Then they go on to try something new, when it often takes perseverance to get to your desired outcome.

I’ve recently noticed that my newsfeed is full of people trying out an app called Periscope. If you love video, why not try it out, but is it THE thing that will help you to grow your business or the next biggest distraction?

As humans we’re easily distracted. Although you might have a plan, it won’t take much to procrastinate, find something new to look at, and then never achieve what you wanted in the first place.

One of my mantras with my clients is to focus on a few things and do them well, rather than spread yourself too thinly and never achieve anything. That’s especially key if you’re writing a book or creating a programme, otherwise you’ll find that you will start and never get it finished.

Over the years, I’ve learnt what works in my business.

I’ve run dozens of webinars because they help me to share my expertise, solve your problems and answer your questions.

I’ve published 3 books, because I know they’ve helped me to reach a wider audience who want support in the areas of business and writing a book.

I do semi-regular speaking gigs, because they help me to share my thing in front of the right people who are interested in my message and getting my help.

And I write a regular newsletter and blog because it enables me to connect with you and the rest of my community.

From time to time, I do other things too. I have a YouTube channel and occasionally I pop into a studio and shoot a few clips, but you’ll rarely find me doing an impromptu recording. Mainly because it would take me ages to get it right, whereas writing comes more easily!

Although I run live physical events, I get more energy from working one-to-one with my clients and running retreats than spending a day in front of a larger audience.  Perhaps that’s the introvert inside me, but I’ve also learnt to listen to my heart and my body in finding what I love to do. It’s also an area where I can make a bigger difference and I enjoy talking to people and helping them to get their book done.

I do network occasionally, but you’re more likely to see me connecting with people on Facebook because that’s how I love to work.

With any marketing it’s about consistency in your message, people getting to know what you stand for and how you can help, and being regular (and passionate) in your communications.

So what do you do that works?

I’d love to know… Are you getting distracted by the next new thing and constantly reinventing the wheel? Or do you prefer to delve deep into what you love to do and where you get results?

There may be times when you know you need to sit down and reassess what works and where you want your business to go, which is an area where I can help you. In my recent masterclass, one of the things mentioned was wanting to start selling more than their one-to-one time, which is, of course, where a book comes in.

If you are looking to upscale your business, your book will widen your reach, help you to become an expert and enable you to focus on doing what you love every day. And to be honest, it helps you to nail the things that will work to help you to grow your business, which I’ll be talking about more in next week’s blog post.

Are you doing what works?
