4 reasons why writing your book must be at the top of your to do list

writing your book

What’s at the top of your ‘to do’ list?

This is the thing that you know you MUST do. It IS your priority and it IS non-negotiable.

I’ve talked to a few people recently who have ‘writing a book’ on their ‘to do’ list. But it’s not at the top.

It keeps slipping down the list and never becomes a priority.

Sure it’s important to bring in clients and to earn an income, but what if I told you that…

  1. Writing your book doesn’t have to be time consuming
  2. You have all the content you need already
  3. If you don’t do it, someone else will get in there first!
  4. If you don’t write your book, you’re leaving money on the table

I’m going to go through these step-by-step, so let’s look at the initial point first.

1. Writing your book doesn’t have to be time consuming

The thing that puts a lot of people off writing a book is that they don’t know where to start. The thought feels overwhelming and they worry about the days and weeks of effort that they need to put in. Yet from my experience, it doesn’t have to be that way.

It’s up to you when you decide to write your book and when you decide to publish it. Of course, if you want to get it done quickly, it will require some hard graft, but you don’t have to write it overnight!

To achieve a great product without wasting time, you need to put together a realistic schedule, a detailed plan and get support to make it happen.

2. You have all the content you need already

That leads me to point two. I had a conversation with someone recently who was worried that she’d have to find tons of new content for her book, and that’s not so.

If you’re using your book as a positioning tool to stand out in your industry, and you’re already working in that sector with your ideal clients, then you just need to repurpose what you know already.

I bet that you’ve got lots of blog posts, course material, training notes, and tons of ideas that you could use for your book.

When you put these together in a structured way, then your book will take much less time to write.

3. If you don’t do it, someone else will get in there first!

I hope this third point will get you focused on writing your book now.

I’ve recently taken on a new client who found out that her direct http://premier-pharmacy.com/product-category/anti-inflammatories/ competitor is planning on bringing out a book in January 2017. Although her book is very different in terms of its hook, she knows that she also needs to get hers done in the same time-frame.

How would you feel if you finally decided to write your book, then realise that someone else has already written the one that you wanted to write?

4. If you don’t write your book, you’re leaving money on the table

writing your book

I believe the most important point is this last one. If you don’t write your book in your area of expertise, then you’re leaving money on the table.

If you’re currently spending all of your time chasing clients, looking for speaking gigs, and searching for opportunities, then you need to stop and write your book!

A good and well-marketed book will help people to find you rather than you searching for them.

When you implement the right strategies to get your book distributed all around the world, and put effective promotion activities in place to raise your profile through your book, this will help you to grow your business.

  • You’ll have a product that is available to purchase when you speak at events or to give away to promising prospects.
  • The book will lead to other programmes and packages that will resonate with your readers, and make it easy for them to buy from you.
  • Just by being an author will put you in a different league to your competitors.

Is it time to put your book at the TOP of your ‘to do’ list?

What do you think?

What needs to happen for writing a book to move up your list?
