The 5 myths of writing a book

What goes through your mind when you think about writing a book?

Do you believe that it’s easy or hard?

What do you consider the difference that having a published book might make (or not make) to your business?

I’d like to expose 5 myths about writing a book and what actually is fact rather than fiction!

Myth 1: Writing a book will get me noticed and will automatically build my business.

I come across a lot of authors who have written a book that does absolutely nothing for them.

Although sometimes it may be due to the quality of what is produced, most of the time it’s more about how the author has used their book to promote themselves. You can have the best book in the world, but if you do nothing with it when it’s published, you’ll always have a box of books in the cupboard rather than in the hands of people who need to read them.

Fact: If you’re going to spend your time and effort writing a book, you must align it to your business, tell people how you can help them, and use it as a marketing tool even before it’s published.

Myth 2: Anyone can do it.

I don’t think that anyone can write a book. For a start, you have to be focused, committed and inspired. I see many people who start to write their book, but never get it finished because their motivation wanes along the journey.

For others, they lose confidence in their ability; they fail to manage their inner critic or struggle to believe that people want to read what they have to say. And if writing does not come naturally to you, you’ll need to find another way to get your wisdom down on paper.

Fact: You have to be really committed to write your book. Accountability, support and shortcuts will be the keys to your success.

Myth 3: Writing it is the hard part.

If you’re already writing your book, I hate to debunk this myth!

I believe that the writing part is the easiest bit of the process… as long as you have a strong plan in place, you know exactly who you’re writing it for, and you have a clear grasp of the process that you’re sharing in the book. There are simple hints and tips that I teach carisoprodol which make this part easier than you’d imagine.

Fact: The harder part is editing the final version and producing something that makes you feel proud. And, of course, remembering that you need a strong marketing plan in place to get it noticed once published.

Myth 4: Achieving bestseller status is important.

My first two books reached number one on Amazon and it’s a good claim to fame. But the reason behind this isn’t just about reaching number one – as much as this might feel good!

The main benefit of having a launch like this is that it helps to get you and your book noticed. You’ll have other people on board to help you to promote it, you’ll probably have a special offer to raise your book’s profile, and you’ll be giving it all you’ve got to get it up the rankings.

Fact: Having a well planned launch is where the magic happens. This will enable you to reach the people who need to read it, and this creates a ripple effect, as more people will become aware of your book.

Myth 5: If I promote myself in my book, it will appear really cheesy and salesy.

This is something that I come across a lot, especially from those who have already published their book.

Quite frankly, if you don’t promote yourself in your book, you’ll have missed one of the most important parts of writing a business book! But it doesn’t have to be cheesy or salesy. You can do it in a more authentic way.

Fact: There are subtle things that you can do in your book to show how you can help your readers further, and these will  get you more clients. I’ll be telling you more about this on Wednesday on my Book Masterclass.
