How to successfully launch a book! [week 2 – endorsements and book reviews]
Thanks so much for your positive feedback following last week’s blog. I am giving you the chance to look over my shoulder as I launch the second edition of Book Marketing Made Simple! You can view the first post here.
This week, I have created the marketing plan, with three key areas for launch over the next three months. And I have been tying up some loose ends for the book. The manuscript went for typesetting on Sunday, I've been playing with the subtitle and I've been seeking some final endorsements for the book. Endorsements and book reviews are the focus of today's video.
How to get endorsements and book reviews
I saw a question in a Facebook group last week that said, “Does anyone have ideas on getting endorsements and book reviews?” I quickly replied with three strategies.
Endorsements cover two areas in a book:
- The praise that sits in the front of the book (and may possibly feature on the cover)
- The foreword, which is usually someone who has a professional standing in your industry, who will endorse you and your book.
Why do you need endorsements and book reviews? Simply, they provide great social proof.
Going back to the question, here is my reply.
1. Write a list of people you want to approach
These are people who you’d love to endorse your book. They may be celebrities, clients, prospective clients, mentors, your peer reviewers to name a few.
2. Be clear why them
If you are contacting people who don’t already know you or who don’t know about your book, why do you want them to endorse your book?
3. Approach them
If you know these people personally, send them an email, message or pick up the phone. If you don’t, who do you know who is connected with them? Can they connect you? If they are famous and seem unobtainable, go via their agent, send them a DM via their preferred social media platform. Make sure you have a clear synopsis of your book that you can send plus a PDF copy ready to go when they reply.
What’s the worst that can happen? They say no? What if they say yes?
Who would you like to endorse your book?
I'd love your comments below!
