When is a special offer not a discount?

I recently received a Facebook message from Mhairi Gordon-Preston, a fellow coach who I have known for many years, and finally met whilst I was speaking at a Cheshire Winning Women event last year.

Mhairi asked Do you have articles or other resources on how to create special offers that aren’t discounts, please?‘ and I decided that this would make a good blog post!

Every so often I will give special offers (see below) but I don’t see them as discounts.  I see them as a way of offering more value to my clients.

If you saw my recent blog post on charging, you’ll know that I don’t charge by the hour as I know I get my best results when people work with me through one of my packages. But sometimes you need a quick push in the right direction and a 2 hour strategy session or a half day boost will get you focused and motivated on what needs to happen next in your business.

You will often see people use a significant event as an excuse for an offer – like a birthday (watch your email on 11th May!), anniversary or just because…

If you are thinking about running a special offer but don’t want to devalue your transformation, here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Instead of considering the offer as a way of discounting your services, think about how you can add more value, like a bonus, additional support, or something else that your clients want.
  • Don’t always go for the one-to-one option. If you are finding that your clients are facing a common problem, what group offerings can you provide? Consider options such as webinars, online programmes or events and workshops.
  • You could also look at products that you have created already and look at how you can repackage these up for new clients. This is exactly what I did with the 90 Days to Stand Out in your Business programme which I ran last year.
  • Give your special offer some sort of scarcity that will encourage your clients to take rapid action – like a limited number of places, sessions or products available.
  • Always have somewhere for the person to go once they have worked with you, if they are ready to take the next steps.

Spring Business Strategy Session

Spring has sprung and just because I want to, I’d love to give you the chance to have a 2 hour Business Strategy Session with me this spring.  I have 3 spaces available for business owners who are ready to step up.  Perhaps you want to create your own special offer, develop products or programmes, or spend some quality time working on the next steps for you and your business.

Here are the details you need (there is no snazzy webpage for this, as I want to use my time helping you to get sorted). Please note that this offer expires when all 3 places have been filled or Tuesday 8 April, whichever is soonest.

For just £325 you get access to:

  • A two hour one-to-one focused strategy session with me via Gotomeeting. You get to tell me what you want and I get to share my expertise to grow your business
  • A follow up 45 minute mentoring call to make sure that you stay on track
  • A month’s free access to The Business Wow Factor with access to a wealth of knowledge to keep you focused (total value £500+)

There are only 3 spaces available during April. Email karen@selfdiscoverycoaching.co.uk to put the spring back into your business.

Wow! I thought your instant answer on Facebook was full of meaty ideas, but this is even better.

I agree with you that it’s really important not to devalue coaching. Not because us coaches are so amazing 🙂 but because our clients are. And their investments of effort, time, money, and an openness to learn & change, are of high value.

Thank you for so many ideas for ways I can pile on additional goodies and ways to learn, that don’t take away from the value and benefits of my main offering.

You’re a great coach and a businesswoman who really knows her onions
